UWIC 10 Blackwood 44
UWIC faced a strong north westerly wind in the first half at Cyncoed and started with a commitment that had been lacking in the past few games. Despite a lot of possession we were unable to finish moves, or break through Blackwood’s solid defence. Twenty minutes into the half, in only their second or third venture into UWIC territory Blackwood ran in their first try, which was followed shortly by a second leaving the score at half time 0 – 10.
Given the strength of the wind one might argue that 10 points was not too bad, but UWIC had their chances and the gaps in our defence were becoming more obvious to see.
A handling mistake from the kick-off gave Blackwood yet another try putting them fifteen points ahead. Then UWIC starting coming back at Blackwood with a penalty from Alex White to be followed shortly by a super try where the scrum-half, Lee Williams made ground passing to No 8, Martin Webdale, to touch down. With the conversion by Alex White, UWIC looked to be back in the game at 10-15.Then a disastrous final 25 minutes, saw Blackwood leave UWIC standing with five more tries and 2 conversions.
