UWIC 39 v LLANGENECH 31

UWIC enjoyed home advantage in this entertaining fixture against a skilful Llangennech. Outside half, Tom Hancock opened the students’ account with a 40 metre penalty before prop, Huw Gustaffson, powered over for a try converted by Hancock. Next on the score sheet was wing, John Webb, who followed up a deft kick from scrum half, Lee Williams and used his pace to beat the defence and score a try converted by Hancock. Full back, Martyn Thomas showed his exceptional acceleration to slice through the defence for a try converted by Hancock.

The 24-19 half time score line in UWIC’s favour may have seemed insufficient given that they were playing with a strong wind. Coach, Chris Davey had some strong comments at the break which paid off as flanker, Ryan Harris scored a short range unconverted try followed by a cracker from wing, Nathan Trowbridge, following a break from Webb. Trowbridge then produced a fine chip and chase to score a further unconverted try but two late tries from Llangennech, one converted, reduced the final score line.
