UWIC 20 v LLANTWIT FARDRE 14
UWIC struggled to overcome LLantwit Fardre in the third round of the Konika Minolta cup. They started brightly when a powerful forward drive saw hooker, John Watkins, go over for a try converted by full back, Matt McLean but then a series of handling and passing errors allowed LLantwit
Fardre back into the game as they scored two converted tries. A McLean penalty from thirty metres made the score 10-14 in the visitors’ favour.
The second half was as error strewn as the first with the backs finding difficulty in moving the ball wide and committing the opposition in the tackle area. Then wing, George Dixon, put his opposition wing under pressure and centre, Pat Foreman, picked up and ran in from 30 metres. Centre Johnathan Beddow, then latched on to a McLean break to score an unconverted try.
A more expansive game involving the wings will be needed if the students are to progress further in the cup.
