UWIC 13 Beddau 64
Conditions were near perfect on the College pitch where we were expecting an open running game from UWIC at the 19.22 KO against Beddau last Wednesday.
Beddau, however, had other designs on the match and took just 3 minutes to run in the first of 10 tries. UWIC struggled hard in the first half but despite tries from Dafydd James and Steffan Taricska we were still trailing by 13 – 26 at the half-time whistle.
UWIC must look hard at how Beddau were able to charge at will through our defence, which was in complete contrast to the oppositions well structured attacking defence. Beddau were nearly always just within the referees judgement of being offside and always hard, physical and committed. It cut out any chance of quick ball for UWIC.
Several of our players took heavy knocks, which will limit further the team selections for next Saturday’s home match against Blackwood, when hopefully some serious lessons will have been learnt.
