UWIC 29 v CAERPHILLY 27
In a cliff hanger played out at Virginia Park, the match was decided by a late penalty from the cool as a cucumber outside half, Tom Hancock.
Earlier, the driving student forward play soon setup a try from hooker, John Watkins after Hancock had nailed a 40 metre penalty. Right wing, John Webbe was also influential with his pace and he scored an unconverted try following a strong burst from centre, George Dixon. The students were well worth the 16-10 half time score line but the Caerphilly backs always looked dangerous.
In the second half, Hancock put over a straightforward penalty before Caerphilly came back with three tries, one converted, to lead 19-27 but back came UWIC with a short range try from centre, Alex White converted by Hancock.
Then came the final play of the game and a difficult 35 metre from the right hand side of the field. Up stepped Hancock who confidently struck the ball between the posts and the rest is history.
