UWIC 17   Whitland 29

Given the wet showery weather of the past week it was good to see that the pitch had drained so well leaving firm dry footing, aided on the match day by the strong westerly winds and warm sunshine.   Conditions that suit UWIC’s open running style.

The game got off to a quick start with a Whitland penalty which was equalised by UWIC soon after, curtsey of Nicky Robert’s kick. Unfortunately UWIC couldn’t take first half advantage of the strong wind and despite an excellent try by the flanker Steffan Taricska and conversion by Nicky Roberts we were unable to hold the stronger Whitland pack.

Following the half-time “pep-talk” from Chris Davey , UWIC raised their game and were rewarded with a George Dixon try converted by Nicky Roberts. However this seemed a poor return for UWIC’s sustained pressure on the Whitland try line. Having absorbed the pressure, Whitland came back at UWIC and made a couple of late scores.
